The new excise tax on powerful cars will not apply to electric vehicles
The Ministry of Finance will further discuss how to tax hybrids.
Deputy Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova said that electric vehicles will be excluded from the proposed new excise tax, as their power is higher due to the batteries.
The proposal provides for an initial excise duty of €10,000 for new cars with over 250 kW, plus €10 for each kilowatt above the threshold.
The Association of Automobile Manufacturers warns that such a tax would make new cars more expensive and delay fleet renewal.
