OE BMW 5W30 is a synthetic oil with a low viscosity for modern gasoline and diesel engines, including those with a DPF filter and extended drain intervals. Original BMW oils (BMW Original Oil) are developed specifically for BMW and MINI engines and are used in official BMW service centers.

The letter W indicates the oil's behavior in cold weather - 5W provides quick lubrication during winter starts, and 30 is the viscosity at operating temperature. Many 5W30 versions are Low SAPS (ACEA C2/C3) and protect the diesel particulate filter.
